The Good News Gazette Has Arrived — And Here’s Why I Had to Walk Away from News to Create It

For years, people have asked me the same thing:"You had a successful career in news, your own show in the fourth largest market in the US. Why would you leave it all behind???"

The answer is both simple — and very complicated. But before I get to that, let me tell you what I built instead.

The Good News Gazette is everything I wish existed in the media world:

  • Everyday heroes doing real, meaningful good

  • Medical breakthroughs that offer hope and healing

  • Financial practices that build stronger futures

  • Mental health tools that actually help

  • Athletes and public figures being MVPs off the field

  • And real solutions that make life better

Think of it like your old Sunday paper — but every section is focused on growth, positivity, and lessons we can actually use.

Let’s be honest:The assholes shouldn’t be the only ones who get the headlines — the angels should too.

Why I Left

The news cycle is overwhelmingly negative. I still remember a professor telling me:"We report on the plane that crashes, not the one that lands."

And while that might make sense for headlines — it completely distorts reality. Most planes land. Most people come home to their families. Most people are doing their best.Yes, there is bad in the world. But I truly believe most of humanity wants good for themselves and others. And those are the stories that fuel me.

But in newsrooms, I fought — constantly — to cover those kinds of stories. I lost most of those battles. Instead, I was sent to cover another crime, another scandal, another fear-driven headline.

Then came the assignment that broke me:“Can you report on whether dogs can spread COVID to people?”

I asked: “Has that actually happened?”The answer: “No. But I saw someone tweet about it, so people are asking.”

I couldn’t do it. I wasn’t going to plant fear where none was needed — especially at a time when the world was drowning in fear. And news flash: dogs don’t spread COVID to humans.

That was the moment I knew:I was done contributing to a machine that profits off fear, division, and negativity.

What It Cost Me

Beyond the content itself, being around that negativity impacted everything. My anxiety spiked. I was exhausted all the time. My health declined. I gained weight. I felt like I was disappearing in real-time.

And then came the final wake-up call:News doesn’t pay.

I was reporting on inflation while being offered 1% and 2% raises. That’s when I realized:My life. My focus. My worth. My energy. They’re all in my hands. And that’s what I want this community to remember too:You are responsible for your life — and you owe it to yourself to find the good.
